As Director, User Experience and Design, you and your team will build delightful, polished products that excite users both in and out of their vehicles. Your work will involve designing interfaces that solve complex interactions with elegance and simplicity. You have a strong interest in technology and know how to work alongside engineers and product managers. You can tell compelling stories about users and products to support your work. Designers at SiriusXM take projects from napkin sketches through prototype to final visual specifications. We believe in generalists that have a hand in each stage of product design. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and the rest of the team to create amazing experiences for our customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Guide the design of compelling, usable and delightful user interactions for a variety of connected vehicle services and products that include in vehicle, web, mobile app and agent experiences.
Take ownership of one or more parts of the product user experience, designing the interactions and interfaces all dimensions of interaction design, incorporating content, graphics, time, sound, form factor and desired user action into final recommended design solutions.
Create and present the visualization of innovative product concepts by building high-level interaction prototypes.
Create documentation (including design rules, flows and animations) that enables software developers to build software that fosters a delightful user experience.
Develop and rapidly iterate on designs that will satisfy the technical and emotional needs of user personas as they interact with products.
Collaborate with and develop mutual respect and trust with design, product management, content strategy, engineering, marketing and external clients.
Collaborate effectively with an agile, multi-disciplinary team to evaluate the feasibility of proposed designs and champion great UX in the face of technical constraints.
Direct user experience research and usability studies.
Direct and manage regular design reviews and other team-wide design efforts.
Communicate results and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways.
Effectively manage and assigns priorities and workloads to staff.
Introduces, develop and ensures best design practices and processes are in place.
Liaises with clients and is able to deliver inspiring, persuasive presentations.

- Develop, motivate and manage and effective team of internal and external UX and visual designers to meet business needs.
BA or BS in a design-related field (i.e.: Human-Computer Interaction, interaction industrial or graphic design) or cognitive psychology or equivalent relevant experience; Master's preferred
Minimum 10 years of experience in usability and/or a design related field
Requirements and General Skills:
Experience turning complex problems into simple and engaging customer experiences for the web, iPad, iPhone, and Android
Expertise in developing information architecture, interaction models, customer flows, schematics, visual design and prototypes for products and services
Capable of communicating interactions rapidly at varying levels of resolution
Comfortable with an iterative design process that includes accepting and managing feedback and constructive criticism
Experience conducting customer research--ranging from insight protocols to usability tests
Background developing interaction prototypes
Proven track record of designing and shipping successful software design experiences
Experience designing across multiple device types and contexts (desktop, mobile, etc.)
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively defend design decisions
Excellent collaboration skills
Experience managing and building UX teams
Strong visual design skills, including motion design
Sound design ability and experience
Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Travel required 20-40% of work time
Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast paced environment
Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
Extensive experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, and Fireworks as they relate to documenting IA, interactions flows and high-fidelity screen level design
Detailed experience with rapid prototyping software
Knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)
Experience with Agile and Waterfall software development practices (from a Marketing and requirements perspective)
Experience using automated requirements tracking tools and bug tracking tools a plus
