Senior Engineer, Vertica /Database Administrator

The Senior Vertica Engineer / DBA in the Business Intelligence department will be responsible to manage large scale Vertica cluster environments from the operations point-of-view, handling all Vertica environment builds, including design, capacity planning, cluster setup, performance tuning and ongoing monitoring & operations. The candidate must have thorough understanding of Vertica physical & logical architecture, hands-on experience on 15+ nodes Vertica Platform, excellent SQL skills, experience in programming / scripting to build UDF/UDX and orchestration of integration processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, implement and maintain physical database structures and associated hardware, network and system configurations.
Tune hardware and software settings.
Manage virtual & hardware resources on-prem and / or in the cloud.
Setup backup, replication, load balancing and clustering.
Design and administer database security strategies.
Ensure business continuity in the case of disaster.
Improve and promote operational scalability and standardization.
Manage SLA (service level agreement) for various data sources / targets.
Monitor and tune databases for efficiency and help drive improvements.
Create tools and processes to automate administration and monitoring.
Manage data, maintain data integrity, using effective utility and disk management procedures.
Take lead role in problem identification and resolution support through analysis and research.
Collaborate and consult with application development teams to determine database/system platform selection, efficient database design, and access.
Use knowledge and expertise of existing database environments to make recommendations for opportunities to share data and/or reduce data redundancies.
Plan, coordinate with IT Operations and developers & execute upgrade for new product releases.
Provide technical assistance and mentoring to offshore team in all areas of Vertica support.
Present concise status updates to senior management.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or equivalent, relevant experience.
10+ years of professional IT work experience.
8+ years of experience on Vertica database in different roles (developer/architect /DBA).
5+ years of experience in supporting a high-performance, cross-functional, 24/7 IT Data Operations team in multiple locations and time zones.
Requirements and General Skills:

Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
Expertise in Vertica Physical and Logical Architecture.
Excellent query writing skills and debugging problematic queries.
Deep Understanding of Data Concepts (ETL, data structures, metadata and workflow management).
Understanding of Linux Operating System, Commands, Tracing and Performance tools.
Skilled in programming / scripting to build UDF/UDX and orchestration of integration processes (Python, Java, C/C++, Scala, Bash, Korn Shell).
Working knowledge of integration with Kafka, Hadoop, NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra etc) and any automation/configuration tool experience.
Experience with Vertica Cloud implementation a plus.
Experience in Media & Entertainment industry a plus.
Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
